Reclaiming Relevance Through Problem-Driven Interdisciplinary Research

Management studies began as an applied, integrative field, yet has increasingly prioritised abstract theorising over practical problem solving. In this paper the authors argue for a return to problem-driven, interdisciplinary research and offer a pragmatic framework (coordination / collaboration / co-creation) that matches problem types to appropriate modes of interdisciplinary engagement. The framework is designed to help scholars and institutions navigate the institutional and epistemic barriers that currently limit impactful, cross-disciplinary work.
