The Review Process
At the Journal of Management Studies (JMS) we use a double-blind peer review system to ensure fairness, rigour, and constructive feedback.
Here’s what to expect once you submit your manuscript:
1. Editorial Screening (Within 1 Week)
- The Editorial Office will review your submission to ensure all required information and materials have been provided. If anything is missing or unclear, your manuscript will be unsubmitted at this stage, so you can make the necessary amendments.
- Once complete, your manuscript will be passed to the appropriate Editor to assess its suitability for JMS.
- Manuscripts that lack theoretical contribution, methodological rigour, or engagement with relevant literature will receive a decision letter with feedback and, where appropriate, suggestions for improvement.
2. Reviewer Assignment
- If your manuscript passes the initial screening, it will be sent to three expert reviewers.
- Reviewers are selected from the JMS Editorial Review Board and/or wider academic community.
- Please ensure your manuscript is fully anonymised to maintain the integrity of the double-blind process.
3. Plagiarism Check
- All manuscripts sent for review are screened using iThenticate to check for overlap with previously published work.
4. Review Timeline (Typically 1-3 Months)
- Reviewers provide detailed, developmental feedback.
- The Editors aim to return a decision within three months of submission.
5. Revisions (Typically 4 Months)
- If revisions are requested, you will typically be asked to resubmit within four months.
- A point-by-point response to reviewer comments is required with your revised manuscript.
- If you need more time, contact the handling Editor or the Editorial Office.
6. Further Rounds of Review
- Most manuscripts go through 2- 4 rounds of revision before a final decision is made.
- If no contact is made within 12 months after the last contact from office, any resubmission may be treated as a new submission.
7. Editorial Oversight
- To ensure consistency across the editorial team, a second Editor is consulted at or beyond the second revision.
- They may offer additional feedback, but the final decision rests with the handling Editor.
8. Acceptance
- If your manuscript reaches acceptance, it will typically appear online within 1 month of it being sent to Production.
