Journal Metrics, Rankings & Ethical Standards
Why Ethics and Metrics Matter
At JMS, we are committed to transparency, integrity, and responsible publishing. We follow internationally recognised standards to ensure fairness in peer review, accountability in authorship, and trust in the scholarly record. By upholding ethical practices, we help build a research culture rooted in respect and credibility.
We openly share metrics such as citation scores, indexing status, and readership data to help authors, readers, and institutions understand the journal’s reach. These indicators offer useful insights when considered thoughtfully and alongside other ways of assessing research quality.
Commitment to DORA and COPE
JMS is a signatory of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). We are proud to support these principles and advocate for the responsible use of metrics in research evaluation. We also encourage institutions and funders to assess research on its own merits rather than relying solely on journal-based indicators.
Since 2009, the Journal has also been a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). This means our editorial policies and practices all align with COPE’s guidelines for ethical publishing, including:
- Transparent peer review processes
- Clear authorship and contribution criteria
- Procedures for handling misconduct and corrections
- Editorial independence and accountability
Our alignment to DORA and COPE reflects the core values that guide JMS: Shape the Future, Welcome Everyone, Support Every Step, and Make Ideas Matter.
Journal Metrics and Recognition
Reflecting to standards set by DORA and COPE, JMS uses metrics like citation scores, indexing status, and readership data to provide context for the journal’s reach and relevance, see below:
