Genetics in Management Studies

Can genetics advance our understanding of behavior and decision-making in organizations?

In this Point-Counterpoint, the authors debate the future of genetics in management studies and discuss what scholars must resolve to advance management research with genetics. Should there be a deeper dive into the field of genetics to ensure more precise measurement and make better causal inferences, should we be cautious of reducing complex human behaviour to molecular causes and instead use genetics to explain distal evolutionary conditions from which behaviours emerge.

In seeking to advance management research with knowledge from a different discipline this Point-Counterpoint calls for researchers to carefully consider when and under what conditions should genetic explanations be sought, rather than uncritically embracing genetic explanations or dismissing them outright.
