Journal of Management Studies Seeks New General and Associate Editors

The Journal of Management Studies is seeking one General and a minimum of seven Associate Editors to join the current editorial team. The term of office is three years in the first instance with an option for a further three. The post carries an honorarium, and necessary journal-related travel expenses are available.

The Journal of Management Studies was established in 1963 as one of the first general management journals. It publishes innovative, novel, and high-quality papers that advance theoretical and empirical knowledge in the area of management. It is one of the leading management journals in the world; it has been part of the FT50 journal list since 2011, has a 2025 Clarivate Impact Factor of 7.8 and a Scopus CiteScore of 14.7.

Essential qualities sought from candidates include the following:

  • Significant scholarly contributions in any area of management studies. It is expected that applicants will identify a primary area of expertise, however given JMS’ “big tent” ethos, candidates are expected to be flexible: able and willing to handle manuscripts across topics and domains that could extend beyond their primary area.
  • Extensive and recognized experience as a reviewer for management journals and, preferably, editorial experience.
  • Demonstrated administrative skills, capacity to handle a demanding workload and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work constructively with authors, reviewers, and the editorial team maintaining the journal’s professional reputation.
  • Ability to communicate decisions with clarity, fairness, and tact, while supporting authors through constructive feedback.
  • Willingness to contribute to the success of the journal through attendance at editorial meetings and representing the journal at events and institutions.
  • Methodological expertise in quantitative and/or qualitative methods.

In addition to the above, a successful candidate for the role of General Editor will also demonstrate strong leadership qualities, including intellectual rigour, fairness, strategic vision, and the ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive scholarly community. Specifically, the following qualities should be evidenced:

  • Extensive editorial experience within a high-quality, leading general management journal.
  • Overseeing and developing strategic initiatives and policies.
  • Decision-making skills in dealing with complex situations.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with the full range of JMS’ constituents.
  • Effective and dependable collaboration in a shared leadership model.
  • Commitment to upholding the journal’s ethical code.

Strong candidates with expertise in any area of management studies at any level of analysis will be considered. We are particularly keen to consider candidates with broad expertise in (listed alphabetically):
