How Hybrid Work Shapes Communication Ties: The Role of Concern about Relationship Loss and Organizational Identification

This paper (quasi-experimental study + pre-registered replication, US samples) finds that hybrid work raises employees’ concern about losing work relationships.

When organizational identification is high, that concern spurs interpersonal organizational citizenship behaviours (OCBs) that help retain communication ties (an effect stronger for retention than for loss or new ties). Practical implication: strengthen organizational identification and support OCB to keep relational continuity in hybrid teams.
