In this essay, the authors reflect on their own experiences to examine why academic consulting is often hidden from view and the dilemmas scholars face when engaging with practice. They identify four central tensions (credibility, integrity, impact, and purpose) and offer personal, relational, and structural calls to action for bringing consulting into the light of university life.
