This paper examines how workplace support for refugee employees can both empower and unintentionally marginalize, depending on how well support practices align with refugees’ needs. Drawing on a multi-perspective qualitative study of refugee employees and their support providers, the authors identify distinct “support constellations” and highlight the roles of perception, communication, and reflexivity in shaping when support helps, and when it backfires. The paper offers important implications for organizations seeking to support refugee integration at work in meaningful, empowering ways.
