Property Rights Theory, Justice, and Reciprocity

A recently published Journal of Management Studies paper by Douglas A. Bosse and Robert A. Phillips extends property rights theory by examining how justice, fairness and reciprocity shape cooperation when contracts cannot fully anticipate future behaviour.

The paper considers behaviours such as quiet quitting and work-to-rule as examples of extra-contractual responses that can affect value creation, arguing that social norms play a critical role in how stakeholders respond to residual decision-making.
